These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and MapsiTech Oy ("MapsiTech") regarding your use of the Maastokartat application ("the app"). MapsiTech is a company registered in Finland.
You must accept these Terms before using the app. If you do not accept the Terms, you cannot use the app.
These Terms apply together with our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal data.
Maastokartat is a map and navigation application designed for outdoor activities and terrain navigation. The app allows you to view maps, plan and record tracks, save places of interest, and use various navigation features. The app includes both free and paid features.
The app is intended as a planning and supplementary tool. It does not replace official maps, proper navigation equipment, or your own judgment when navigating outdoors.
If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to use the app and agree to these Terms. By using the app, you represent that you meet these requirements.
Some features of the app require you to create a user account. You can also use the app without an account, but features such as cloud synchronisation will not be available.
When creating an account, you must provide a valid email address. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account.
Your registered email address serves as a means of verifying your identity for password changes, data export, and account deletion requests. If you lose access to both your account and your registered email address, we will not be able to verify your identity and therefore cannot process these requests.
We use industry-standard security practices to protect your account and data. However, complete security cannot be guaranteed. You acknowledge that MapsiTech is not responsible for any data loss, corruption, or unauthorised access, unless mandatory legislation provides otherwise.
We recommend backing up important data, for example using the app's Google Drive backup feature.
You may delete your account at any time through the app. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, misuse the service, or if we are required to do so by law. Upon termination, your data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
We may also delete accounts that have been inactive for 2 years and do not have an active subscription. Before deletion, we will send a notification to your registered email address at least 30 days in advance. Inactivity is determined based on the last time the app was used while signed in. If you use the app before the deletion date, your account will remain active.
Some of the app's features are available through a paid subscription. The scope and availability of free and paid features may change over time. We will make reasonable efforts to communicate significant changes in advance.
Subscriptions are processed and billed through Google Play. By purchasing a subscription, you agree to the pricing and payment terms presented to you at the time of purchase, as well as Google Play's terms of service.
The app offers different subscription options, including recurring and prepaid plans. Recurring subscriptions (such as the annual plan) automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date. Prepaid subscriptions (such as the 3-month plan) do not renew automatically. Access to paid features ends when the prepaid period expires unless you purchase a new subscription.
You can manage or cancel your subscriptions through both the app and Google Play. For recurring subscriptions, cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You retain access to paid features until then.
Subscriptions are personal and non-transferable. You may not share your subscription or account credentials with others. A single subscription entitles you to use the app on up to four (4) devices linked to your account. If you exceed this limit, we may restrict access on additional devices.
Under the Consumer Protection Act (38/1978) Chapter 6 and EU Directive 2011/83/EU, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital purchases made remotely. However, by confirming your purchase and beginning to use the subscription immediately, you give your explicit consent to the delivery of the service beginning immediately and the right of withdrawal ends when the delivery of the digital service has begun.
Refund requests are handled by Google Play in accordance with their refund policies. We do not process payments or refunds directly.
We may adjust subscription pricing from time to time. Price changes do not affect your current billing period. For price increases, Google Play will notify you in advance and you must explicitly accept the new price. If you do not accept, your subscription will not renew and will end at the conclusion of your current billing period.
The app is intended as a supplementary planning and navigation tool. It is not a substitute for official maps, proper navigation equipment, local knowledge, or personal judgment. You should always carry appropriate backup navigation tools when venturing into the outdoors, and you should never rely solely on any digital map application for safety-critical navigation.
The app displays map data obtained from various third-party sources, including but not limited to national mapping agencies, OpenStreetMap, Google Maps, and Mapbox. This data is provided to you through the app under licence from these third parties.
MapsiTech does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or timeliness of any map data displayed in the app. Map data may contain errors in terrain, trail routes, elevation, place names, boundaries, or other geographic information. Conditions in the real world change frequently and maps may not reflect current conditions.
Certain features depend on third-party services (such as map service providers, search services, and weather data). We do not control these services and cannot guarantee their availability, accuracy, or continued operation. If a third-party service becomes unavailable or changes its terms, we may need to modify or discontinue related features.
The app, including its design, source code, features, and brand elements, is owned by MapsiTech Oy and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Third-party map data and content displayed in the app remain the property of their respective owners and are used under licence.
You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app in accordance with these Terms. This licence does not grant you any ownership rights in the app or its content.
The app renders and displays map data obtained from various sources, including open data providers such as the National Land Survey of Finland and OpenStreetMap. The underlying map data may be subject to its own open licences (such as Creative Commons or Open Database License), which are separate from these Terms.
These Terms do not restrict your rights under those open data licences. However, the map images and cartographic styling produced and served by MapsiTech through the app are our work product. You may not:
Normal use of the app is unrestricted, including taking screenshots, printing map views for personal reference, and including screenshots in reviews, articles, or other editorial content.
Deliberate abuse of our map service may result in suspension or termination of your account.
You retain ownership of the content you create in the app, such as places and tracks. By using the cloud synchronisation feature, you grant MapsiTech a limited licence to store, process, and transmit your content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. We do not use your personal content for any other purpose.

We strive to provide a reliable and high-quality service using industry-standard practices. However, we do not guarantee that the app will be available at all times or that it will operate without interruptions or errors. The service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, technical issues, or circumstances beyond our control.
We continuously develop and improve the app. We reserve the right to modify, update, or discontinue any feature or aspect of the service at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you of significant changes that materially affect your use of the service.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. The updated Terms become effective on the date indicated at the top of the document. Your continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you should stop using the app.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the app and its content are provided as is and in whatever form is currently available, without warranties of any kind. In particular:

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless MapsiTech, its employees, and representatives from any claims, damages, losses, and reasonable legal costs arising from your intentional or negligent conduct, such as:
This means that if a third party brings a claim against MapsiTech due to your actions, you are responsible for our resulting costs. Your indemnification obligation is limited to the portion of the damage caused by your own conduct. This section does not apply to situations caused by MapsiTech's own negligence or breach of contract.
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Finland, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the app should first be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If a resolution cannot be reached, the dispute shall be submitted to the Pirkanmaa District Court. Consumers have the right to file a claim also at the district court of their home jurisdiction.
Consumers may also submit a dispute to the Consumer Disputes Board (kuluttajariita.fi). Before submitting a matter to the Consumer Disputes Board, the consumer should contact consumer advisory services (kuluttajaneuvonta.fi).
If a court finds that any part of these Terms is invalid or unenforceable, that part will be adjusted or removed as needed. The rest of these Terms will remain in effect.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any subscription-specific terms presented at the time of purchase, form the complete agreement between you and MapsiTech regarding your use of the app. They replace any previous agreements on the same subject. In matters concerning the processing of personal data, the Privacy Policy takes precedence.
